Kerrang! The Blackout double page spread page 26-27 Issue num : 1261 May 16 2009
In every page spread you always seem to have various captions mainly ones that describe a bands emotional past, and the making of their new/ recent CD.
They often are half of a sentence, swearing is commonly used to make it see edgy. In this case “Lets get fucking steaming! The blackout.”
The border outline towards this is black on white and this can seem like its relating to Misen en secne towards the title of the band.
On the page spread out it give the reader a brief history on the band mates opinions, in this case what success forming the band has done for them. “I’ll know I’ve made it when...” Above the picture they have an image of the band members and a random model (Used as a extra) giving their speech on what success is for them.
In another picture a hand is been shaken as i a life changing contract has just been made. Misen en scene is used and also seems stereotypical by the way everyone dress smart. To show this with the contract owner, is wearing the classical business mans suite pinstripe suite.
It then uses a random catchphrase but has moulded it to fit in the sentence, “Deal or no deal, err that’ll be a deal then“.
To me the band are dressed smartly because it shows their hope for great success for their new CD.
“The best in Town” is the name of the new CD so to reflect this the main image is used because the phrase worlds best is assumed, you do something better than anyone so the colours used are to represent the band name and the clothing in representation of smart and higher success in life unlike others.
Other images on the interview seem like a timeline based on stereotypical way the saying “Sex Drugs & Rock ‘N’ Roll” when faced with these images.
The use of money shows the greed between one and another so as I mentioned seems stereotypical. Soon the image changes to wealth over friends, and then the struggle in a relationship.
I have recognised these images in the certain shots
-Page 24 Sean, and Gavin (Title in on page) is a group high angel shot
-Page 24 the girl and the main focus being money is a low angle group shot
-Page 24 Sean (Blond haired guy) looking left eye line shot
-Page 25 The man with all the money (Held in a fan shape) Medium shot maybe even close up
-Page 25 Sean and the girl faced backwards Medium long shot
Finally going back to the page I am analysing the small image in the right hand corner shows the fall out and the greed of money. I think this also shows the chaos that this album has to have and what it has caused. This shot is in a medium group shot to get all the action.
Above this image is the only piece of text that is created in bold to stand out, THE ALBUM THE BEST IN TOWN IS OUT ON MAY 25. THE BAND-PLAY THE DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL IN JUNE. SEE GIGS FOR DETAILS.
This technique is to promote the CD, and can also be claimed as a way to get more readers into the magazine. In this case mentioned there are pages dedicated for Gigs, people can then find the Black out or other bands and go to gigs. After that transaction is made they can then feel that Kerrang is reliable and carry on buying because of that benefit.
Reading into the interview you as the reader delve deep into the Blackout’s new CD. “THE POINT at which pop finesse meets punk power, the best in town-which opens with a track called ShutTheFuckuppercut, should you require another statement intent-was recorded at sonc Ranch studios in El Paso, Texas with the help of producer and former ‘A’ front man Jason Perry.”
You get an inside look into the new CD and who helped produce, but an extra bonus is a mention of another band. Magazines tell the reader deep details to save research, in doing this it convinces the reader to save time.
Magazines layout out the text so that its boarded in groups and centred. To make a paragraph they make a indent and leave 2 small spaces. To create a new subject, but they have made it clever as if a new start as well as the paragraph “TODAY IS the morning.
To inspire me for magazine after my contents page I'm going to do a quick snappy recap on the band such as mentioning their new CD and then adding the odd quote after my telling of how it came to be. This quote will involve their opinion/emotion and work through the process.
